GradUS doctoral working group "Scientific English"
The working group’s main objectives
English proficiency is an essential qualification for young researchers. Once doctoral students become part of an international scientific community, written and oral communication skills acquire great significance. They are decisive for reaching an international audience with one's written publications, visiting conferences, and engaging in scholarly exchange with international colleagues, guests, and collocutors
The working group was founded in order to provide doctoral students with the opportunity to practise scientific English on a regular basis. During their informal meetings, group members practise conversing in English and writing (short) scientific texts of various types. The meetings are organised by GradUS.
The working group consists of doctoral students from different scientific fields, who would all like to practise English and gain additional proficiency, especially in oral communication. Upon request, an English expert or experienced doctoral student can tutor the group.
GradUS supports the working group "Scientific English" within the scope of a self-organised project promotion. Members can receive a participation confirmation.
The working group’s meetings
The working group arranges regular meetings on campus in Saarbrücken. Moreover, the participating doctoral researchers communicate electronically, mainly via e-mail or Internet portals.
Please contact the team of Saarland University’s Graduate Programme (GradUS) if you are interested in the working group or if would like to join it (Contact).
