Publication of the thesis
The last steps to receiving the doctorate certificate
For the publication of your thesis, you will need the following documents:
- Two mandatory printed copies of the thesis (one copy for the Natural Sciences and Technology department library [Naturwissenschaftlich-Technische Bereichsbibliothek] and one for the Dean`s office)
- The routeing slip 'submission of mandatory copies' (Abgabe der Pflichtexemplare): this functions as a receipt for both mandatory copies and the electronic publication (see below).
- Two copies of the 'publication agreement' (Veröffentlichungsvertrag) signed by you and the SULB: one for you and one for the library.
- The signed 'declaration of compliance' (Übereinstimmungserklärung) for the SULB.
You must FIRSTLY take these documents to the SULB and have them countersigned there.
Afer this, please visit us in our consultation hours with the second mandatory copy and the signed routeing slip.
PLEASE NOTE:
for cumulative doctorates, you must clarify in advance with your publishers the conditions for signing the publication agreement with the SULB.
Publication of the electronic thesis in SciDok
The thesis shall be published in pdf format.
In order to enter your document into SciDok, you must have access to a work station at Saarland University with an internet connection. You also need to have saved the prepared pdf document on your computer and must access the relevant registration form (Anmeldeformular)
Certain information must be entered into the form (title of work in German and English, name of doctoral supervisor, date of oral exam/ colloquium, a maximum of five key words, each in German and English, as well as a short description/ abstract in German and English).
Once this has been completed, the entries and the document itself can be saved in temporary storage.
After a quality check has been performed by the institute or library staff, the document can then be released for upload to the Internet.
Documents can only be submitted from non-university computers by agreement (send an email to scidok(at)sulb.uni-saarland.de).

Exemption from the duty to publish
Following a substantiated request from the applicant, the faculty can refrain from publishing the contents of the thesis for an appropriate period of time, at most 2 years after the date of the colloquium (section 12, para 7 of the doctorate regulations), and/ or it can exempt the applicant from the duty of submitting an electronic version of the thesis.
This can be of significance if, for example, a patent is being processed in connection with the doctorate.
