Allemand (Licence/Bachelor)
The French section within Saarland University’s Department of German Language and Literature offers French-speaking and German students the opportunity to complete part of a French degree in German studies in Saarbrücken. Students are able to complete the third year of the French Licence (corresponding to a ‘Bachelor’ qualification) and then continue with a two-year Master’s programme.
The academic year begins in the winter semester and follows the standard French study regulations. The relevant academic programme is always published before the academic year commences. The courses are taught in either French or German by French and German-speaking members of the academic staff. Some of the modules are also integrated into the German Bachelor’s degree programme 'German Language and Literature'.

Application
Students seeking admission to the Licence programme should have either the DEUG (Diplome d'Etudes Universitaire Générales) in the field of language/literature studies or should have successfully completed at least the first stage (relevant qualifications: Zwischenprüfung or Bachelor) of studies in the field of German language and literature. The Licence d'allemand comprises eight taught courses "Unités d'enseignement" Linguistique et traduction I-II, Littérature I-II, Civilisation I-II, Théorie et pratique de la langue I-II. Students will be examined at the end of each of the two semesters.

Students seeking admission to the Master’s programme must have Licence d'allemand or an equivalent qualification and must have been accepted for admission by an examining member of staff from the French section of the Department of German Language and Literature. The Master’s programme concludes with an oral preliminary examination based on those courses that are also part of the equivalent German degree programmes, after which students must complete an independent academic written assignment. Students have at least nine months in which to prepare and submit this final project.
