Computer and Communications Engineering (B.Sc.)
Programme schedule
During the first four semesters of the B.Sc. programme, students typically complete their mandatory courses and four fundamental industrial placements or internships. The final two semesters offer a broad selection of specialist seminars and a six-month research project that concludes with the student submitting a Bachelor thesis. In order to meet the growing demand for degree level programmes with an international focus, most of the lecture courses in the third year are held in English.
The B.Sc. programme also boasts numerous supplementary features that are designed to provide students with feedback and support during their studies. Progress checks are a necessary and helpful means of ensuring efficient study planning and that academic targets are being met. Mentors and academic guidance counsellors are available for advice and consultation, and there is a special support programme for high-achievers to enable them to graduate early or to achieve a higher level of qualification in the same period.
New students can choose from three different types of recommended study schedule, depending on their previous qualifications and personal goals:
The "Firm fundamentals" ('Solide Basis') option is for students who want to concentrate on the basics in the first two semesters.
The "Electronics First" ('Elektronik zuerst') option is recommended for students who have had a solid grounding in physics (e.g. advanced-level secondary school courses).
The final option "Theoretical Mathematics First" ('Theoretische Mathematik zuerst') is recommended for students with a very good understanding of mathematics.
Preparatory courses in mathematics are also usually held in September/October.
