Historical source analysis (Bachelor, Supplementary subject)
The supplementary subject ‘Historical source analysis’ is concerned with the form and content of the diverse information sources and historical media that are evaluated by historians. Students are taught the specialist knowledge needed to access, analyse and interpret the different types of primary sources that are evaluated when conducting historical research of Antiquity, the Middle Ages and the Early Modern and Modern periods. The programme in historical source analysis is concerned in particular with inscriptions and numismatic sources as well as printed and unprinted archive materials of widely varying provenance. This supplementary subject therefore represents an additional qualification for students who are taking a historical subject as their main or subsidiary subject. It is generally regarded as a programme for students who wish to pursue a Master’s programme in a historical discipline. It can also be viewed as a valuable qualification for the following career areas: librarianship, archive or document management, publishing and the media.
