Materials science and engineering (Master, konsekutiv)

The Master’s degree programme in materials engineering is a strongly research-focused consecutive postgraduate programme that builds on the Bachelor’s degree programme ‘Materials Science and Materials Engineering’. Building on the solid grounding acquired in the Bachelor’s programme ‘Materials Science and Materials Engineering’, students in the Master’s programme have the opportunity to focus on more specialized fields of particular technical or scientific interest.

Students acquire a deeper understanding of such technological aspects as materials development and production technology including new manufacturing and machining processes as well as becoming acquainted with new areas of applications. This is supplemented by more advanced study of methodological and theoretical aspects of the field. By systematically studying and analysing how fabrication and machining procedures affect the microstructure of materials and how microstructure is a key factor influencing material properties, students acquire a deeper understanding of the importance of the process chain in the creation of a product. The complementary perspective is also addressed and involves such aspects as systematic planning, the manufacturing process, production control, and economic and social constraints.
