Mechatronics (Bachelor)
Students interested in the Bachelor programme ‘Mechatronics’ will ideally have a broad interest in engineering problems, good analytical skills and should be good team players. When joining the programme, students should have a good grounding in the requisite mathematical and scientific basics.
The Bachelor’s degree programme in mechatronics aims to provide a structured education in areas of mechanical engineering, electrical engineering and information technology, while placing particular importance on developing an interdisciplinary understanding of mechatronic systems. The programme also promotes the acquisition of good communication skills, and encourages students to work effectively in teams and to organize their work efficiently.
Graduates from the programme will have acquired a professional qualification that enables them to take up entry level positions as mechatronic engineers or to join the more strongly research-driven consecutive Master’s degree programme. Graduates from the B.Sc. programme are able to address complex multidisciplinary questions in the field of mechatronics using modern engineering methods, can work independently to familiarize themselves with new areas of interest, and have the skills to manage complex technical operations and to take on responsibility as head of a team or working group.
The programme therefore starts by providing students with a broad foundation covering the necessary mathematical, scientific and mechatronic fundamentals. Students then deepen their understanding by taking modules in core and specialist areas of mechatronics while also having the opportunity to pursue special interests in a variety of compulsory elective modules in the natural and engineering sciences. The programme includes a range of laboratory courses and a project seminar in mechatronics where students learn to work in teams and to hone their practical competence, problem-solving methodologies and soft skills. The programme also allows students to take certain interdisciplinary modules as well as electives of a more general nature. The preliminary period of relevant practical training, which students are required to complete before joining the programme, provides students with early insight into industrial processes.
