Proof of German language proficiency

To study at Saarland University, international students must prove that they have acquired the necessary German language skills. Proficiency in the German language can be demonstrated by presenting:

1. a certificate that entitles the holder to undertake higher education studies in the issuing country, provided that the certificate is in German and was obtained at a German-speaking school. In this case, the certificate will typically be the German Abitur.
2. a statement of comparability from the relevant responsible authority attesting that the foreign higher education entrance qualification is equivalent to the German higher education entrance qualification, insofar as the statement of comparability covers the German language proficiency of the certificate holder.
3. certification that the applicant has passed either the DSH or the PNDS German language proficiency examinations (DSH: Deutsche Sprachprüfung für den Hochschulzugang ausländischer Studienbewerber; PNDS: Prüfung zum Nachweis deutscher Sprachkenntnisse) in accordance with guidelines laid down by the German Rectors' Conference HRK.
4. certification that the applicant has successfully completed the higher education assessment test (Feststellungsprüfung at a German Studienkolleg).
5. certification that the applicant has passed one of the German language proficiency exams KDS, GDS or ZOB conducted by Goethe-Institut (KDS: Kleines deutsches Sprachdiplom; GDS: Großes deutsches Sprachdiplom; ZOB: Zentrale Oberstufenprüfung).
6. certification that the applicant has successfully completed the DSD Level II exam administered by the KMK (DSD: Deutsches Sprachdiplom; KMK: Conference of Ministers of Education and Cultural Affairs).
7. a higher education entrance qualification obtained in the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg.
8. certification that the applicant has successfully completed the 'TestDaF' exam achieving either level 4 or 5 in all four sections of the test.
