European Planning Office

The creation of a European Higher Education Area brings with it numerous challenges for universities, but also many new and exciting opportunities. This is as true for those in university management as it is for the professors and students. Saarland University is actively addressing these developments, as ‘Europe’ is one of the university’s three key strategic areas. Saarland University’s strategic focus on Europe is ideally matched to the university’s historical binational roots and its geographical location.

The work of the European Planning Office can be classified into following main areas:

Information and documentation:

  • Development of position and strategy papers regarding higher education policies at various political levels (regional, national, European)
  • Compilation of information material on special programmes, events, etc. in the core strategic area ‘Europe’
  • Cooperation with other universities
  • Establishing a common European Higher Education Area in the ‘Greater Region’

  • Participation in the EU Interreg project ‘University of the Greater Region’
  • Expanding an developing the Europaicum programme and its operational implementation
