The International Office school’s project
Worldwide, there are currently 140 German schools abroad and around 850 schools offering the German Language Diploma (DSD). School students at these institutions can work towards attaining the German higher-education entrance qualification (Abitur) or, increasingly, an international secondary school leaving certificate with German as the main language. In order to raise awareness among these school students of the study opportunities available to them at Saarland University, the International Office has begun establishing closer ties to these institutions.
The International Office at Saarland University carries out regular marketing campaigns, which include writing to and visiting German schools abroad and inviting school students to take part in a taster course in Saarbrücken. The main focus of these activities is on German schools in South-East Asia and Central and South America.
We also assist students at Saarland University on teacher training programmes or those taking the post-graduate programme in German as a Foreign Language to find work experience or an internship at a suitable institution abroad. The work experience and teaching assistant positions offered by Saarland University’s partner schools are advertised by the International Office.
The IO also acts as the advisory contact for administrators at German schools abroad who have responsibility for providing study and career advice to their pupils.
In addition to the International Office, there are numerous other advisory and guidance centres at Saarland University whose staff would be pleased to offer assistance and support.
