The Canada Forum
The Canada Forum at Saarland University
"The Canada Forum" at Saarland University is an administrative and coordinating platform for those university groups and departments involved in academic work and research related to Canada.
The research groups working at:
- the Centre d'Etudes Interculturelles sur le Québec et la Francophonie nord-américaine (Director: Professor Hans-Jürgen Lüsebrink),
- the former Centre for Canadian and Anglo-American Cultures (Emeritus Professor Klaus Martens) now the Chair of North American Literary & Cultural Studies (Professor Astrid Fellner) and
- the Department of Geography (Professor Hans-Peter Dörrenbächer)
will continue with their own individual research activities, while at the same time strengthening interdisciplinary ties between them and broadening academic contact and cooperation with other research groups at Saarland University.
The Canada Forum, which is coordinated by Wolfgang Heintz from the International Office, plays a central role at Saarland University and reflects the growing interest in Canadian studies both in Germany as a whole and in Saarland in particular. The aim of the Forum is to pool and enhance our knowledge and understanding of Canada at Saarland University. Building on the interdisciplinary expertise of its members, the Forum seeks to promote and expand broad-based approaches to teaching and research relating to Canada and Canadian culture. The Forum also wants to provide a platform for broadening Canada-related activities to other departments and faculties at Saarland University.
University staff involved in Canadian studies will be able to use the Forum to raise awareness about Canada by fostering and promoting Canadian programmes and cultural activities beyond the campus boundaries. With its interdisciplinary structure, the Canada Forum is seeking to heighten awareness and understanding of Canada’s regional and cultural diversity and its international relations.
The Canada Forum is kindly supported by the Government of Canada.
