SUMA2 Network

 

 The SUMA2 Network is designed to collaborate in the field of materials surface modification for advanced applications, and is composed of 3 Universities and 1 research center in Europe:

  • Saarland University and Fraunhofer Institut for Material and Beam technology (GER),
  • National Politecnical Institute of Lorraine (FRA) and
  • Linköping University (SWE) and

 

 

5 Universities in Latinamerica

  • Universidad Nacional de Río Cuarto,
  • Universidad Nacional del Comahue,
  • Universidad Tecnológica Nacional (ARG),
  • Potificia Universidad Católica de Chile (CHI),
  • Universidade de Caxias do Sul (BRA).

 

The purpose of this multidisciplinary network is to combine different areas of expertise in physics, chemistry, materials science, materials engineering, mechanical engineering and electronic engineering towards the development of optimized surfaces for different applications, such as: gas sensors, transparent p-n junctions, organic solar cells, electrochemical electrodes and wear resistant and anticorrosive surfaces.

 

To achieve this goal different processing techniques will be applied and combined, like plasma-based deposition techniques, plasma-assisted thermochemical diffusion treatments, and laser patterning. This will be complemented with excellent characterization facilities including FIB/SEM, high resolution TEM, and atom probe tomography.

 

Moreover, specially designed facilities for property testing (electrical, mechanical, sensing) are available. 51 exchanges with the participation of 39 scientists with different levels of experience (from PhD students to professors) will be carried out within the project.

Final Workshop - SUMA2 Network

The “Fraunhofer-Institut für Werkstoff- und Strahltechnik” - IWS in Dresden (Germany) the final Workshop of the SUMAe-Network took place on 30th of September 2016. 14 researchers of Europe and Latin America met to discuss about the achievements of this 4-year project as well as the prospective for future collaborations. Read more ...

Workshop on Processing and Characterization of Advanced Steel and Alloys

The Workshop on Processing and Characterization of Advanced Steel and Alloys took place at Catholic University of Uruguay, Montevideo, Uruguay from the 29th of February to the 2nd of March 2016.

The Universidad Católica de Uruguay organized with the support of EUSMAT a workshop on Processing and Characterization of Advanced Steel and Alloys. About 25 researchers of Argentina, Chile, Uruguay, Brazil and Germany, mostly of them participants in the EU projects SUMA2-Network and CREATe-Network, met together in Montevideo to discuss about new research results. Read more...

1st International Workshop on Nanomaterials at the Universidad Nacional de Río Cuarto

 

The 17th of April took place at the Universidad Nacional de Rio Cuarto (UNRC) the 1st International Workshop on Nanomaterials. The purpose of the workshop was to bring together researchers linked to the project SUMA2-Network (IRSES-EU) to exchange findings about different systems of nanomaterials, including modified surfaces, porous materials, nanoparticles, and hydrogels. Four plenary presentations were given by guests coming the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile and from the Linköping University in Sweden.

From November 11th to 13th, an international Workshop on Nanostructured Materials and Surface Engineering will take place in Santiago de Chile. Organized by the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile (EUSMAT Partner) and supported by the SUMA2 project, scientists from several SUMA2 partner institutions as well as from other Latin American institutions will present their latest results. This meeting will provide excellent opportunities to discuss scientific activities and possibilities for future collaborations. SUMA2 - Kick of meeting

 

On 18th -19th of April, the first meeting of the SUMA2 project took place in Buenos Aires.

The aim of SUMA2 is to provide collaboration between different research centers in Latin America as well as in Europe in the field of materials surface modification.
The purpose of this multidisciplinary network is to combine different areas of expertise in physics, chemistry, materials science, materials engineering, mechanical engineering and electronic engineering towards the development of optimized surfaces for different applications, such as: gas sensors, transparent p-n junctions, organic solar cells, electrochemical electrodes and wear resistant and anticorrosive surfaces. This will be complemented with excellent characterization facilities including FIB/SEM, high resolution TEM, and atom probe tomography. Moreover, specially designed facilities for property testing (electrical, mechanical, sensing) are available.

54 exchanges with the participation of 41 scientists with different levels of experience (from PhD students to professors) will be carried out within the project. The total cost of the project is 184.800 €. Three workshops will be organized in order to exchange experience among the partners, to enhance knowledge transfer as well as to discuss further common activities.

This kick of meeting, which took place at the Universidad Tecnólogica nacional in Buenos Aires presented all this aims and was organised by different partners like Dr. Flavio Soldera and Dr. Walter Legnani. In total 14 persons from Argentina, Brazil, Germany, Chile and Sweden participated in the workshop and a multitude of lectures were presented.
