Informationfor pupils

  • High school graduation, what´s next?
Rotary web site for Saarland high school graduates: wide information, hints and field reports on the subject of vocational choice and job application

  • Over the past years Saarland scores superior within the International Biology Olympics. With a qualification-ratio of 36 pupils per one million habitants Saarland nationwide comes in first. The KoMM thanks Mr. Roman Paul (LPM) for his excellent engagement in promoting young people interested in Biology and congratulates the participating pupils. General information for prospective students

In principle one may enrol each study course of Biomedical Sciences or Natural Sciences to get into the act of doing research in the fields of Biomedical Sciences or Molecular Medicine after reaching the appropriate degree.

In this context, the following study courses should be mentioned: Human Medicine, Pharmacy, Biology, Biochemistry, Biophysics, Bioinformatics as well as Chemistry and Physics (the fields of study given in bold letters are offered by the Saarland University). The mentioned study programs certainly differ among each other in their particular main focus. This is also the case for a single study course at different Universities. Thus it is necessary to catch up broad information on the study courses at different Universities before choosing the program and the University, which may fit the ideal conception best in as many aspects as possible.

For all the academics mentioned above it is keen recommended to not early drop the subjects on Natural Sciences in the sixth form, even though it may seem to be suggestive prima facie to some in view of a good final secondary-school examination. Furthermore profound command of English is required for all study courses mentioned.

The Saarland University offers diverse arrangements for pupils of all age classes in order to give insights in the exciting areas of science and research and in order to answer questions concerning the choice of the field of study and the vocational choice.

The "Schüler-Uni" (Pupil University) is a joint initiative of Professors of the Saarland University and members of the German association for promotion of mathematical and scientific education e.V. The "Schüler-Uni" is suitable for pupils from grade 10. Two to three times per year one-day meetings give an overview and early orientation according mathematical-scientific, bio scientific-medical and engineer-scientific courses of studies. After each event, Professors are available for closer insights into their fields of activity. More detailed information is on-hand at the home page of the "Schüler-Uni".

The HIB (University information visits) are information meetings for pupils of the sixth form (Sekundarstufe II). At the beginning of each year, Professors of the Saarland University introduce to their study courses (e.g. Pharmacy, Biology). Both, study advisers and vocational counsellors are present during the meetings; so special questions may be answered. Details with respect to the meetings are given on the home page of the HIB.

The "Schnupperstudium" offers pupils of the sixth class (Sekundarstufe II) the possibility of experiencing a course of studies "live" at the Saarland University (e.g. Medicine). A selection of teaching lessons from the regular study program can be visited during a term. More information regarding the "Schnupperstudium" is available at a special side of the Saarland University`s home page.

Within the "Mach mit Labor" teachers, pupils and all Saarland citizens are invited to accomplish simple genetic experiments at the Saarland University (e.g. "Living genes - isolation of DNA from tomatoes" or "Bright bacteria - gene transfer with plasmids". Dates are arranged after registration. Details are available on the homepage of the laboratory.

"Saarlab" is a group of five pupil experimental laboratories in the region Saarland/Westpfalz (NanoBioLab, Mach-mit-Labor, Centrum für Nanoanalytik, SinnTec und Schnupperpraktikum für Mikrobiologie und Bioverfahrenstechnik). Activities of "Saarlab" include the development of suitable pupil experiments and further education of teachers regarding new research areas. Closer information is available on the home page of "Saarlab".
