• Over the past years Saarland scores superior within the International Biology Olympics. With a qualification-ratio of 36 pupils per one million habitants Saarland nationwide comes in first. The KoMM thanks Mr. Roman Paul (LPM) for his excellent engagement in promoting young people interested in Biology and congratulates the participating pupils. • The Competence Center Molecular Medicine offers advanced training courses on molecular biology/biochemistry for teachers. Further information is availabe at this home page (Offers/Practicals).

• The Roche Genetics Education Program developed an interactive CD-ROM to promote basic awareness of genetics in the general public and which offers an interactive tool to learn basic principles of genetics. The CD-ROM is targeted to a broad audience with an interest in human genetics and its applications in drug discovery and diagnostics. It may be obtained via the Roche home page.
  
  Roche also offers a "Teacher`s Manual" to educators. It was designed for use at the U.S. high school level in conjuction with advanced courses such as biology or biotechnology. A pdf of the teachers manual is available here.
  
  The Lerncenter Roche Diagnostics offers (amongst others) the first online PCR training program. It allows the acquisition of biochemical basics of genetics and the methodology of PCR-technology. Furthermore, interested parties may learn about detection formats and data analysis of modern real-time PCR and the function and application of genechips.

• The Saarland ministry of education, family, women and culture offers lots of material, information and news (amongst others also on biomedical topics) for teachers, pupils and parents on its "education server" (in German only).

• Genlabor & Schule (Gesellschaft für Biochemie und Molekularbiologie (GBM) e.V.) Coordinated network for national integration of about 40 public gene laboratories in Germany, which offer courses for pupils and teachers. In addition, the home page provides a set of teaching materials like learning software, flyer, list of web pages or online material for biology/chemistry classes.
