Composition of the B.A. Major Program Comparative Linguistics and Literature as well as Interpreting (VSLT) with an emphasis on literature

The Bachelor-Degree Program for Comparative Linguistics and Literature as well as Interpreting (VSLT) consists of three fields of concentration. That means that students must acquire a certain amount of credit points (CP) in their major, minor and second minor. To meet the requirements of the major, of the minor and of the second minor students must complete 93 CP, 63 CP and 24 CP respectively. Comparative Linguistics and Literature as well as Interpreting (VSLT) can like any other major only be combined with certain minors. The possible combinations are described in more detail below.

Requirements for the Major (93 CP)

Structure:

Further mandatory information is available in the following official documents (only in German!).

Possible combinations for the minor (63 CP)
Possible combinations for the second minor (24 CP)
Key Qualifications (15 CP)

Key qualifications are part of the requirements of the VSLT major. To complete these 15 CP students can choose from a whole variety of courses in the so called "Optionalbereich". The "Optionalbereich" is an interdisciplinary pool of courses, lectures and seminars without being directly connected to a certain field of concentration. In opposition to VSLT, many other Bachelor-Degree Programs do not require a second, coherent minor. They use more courses of the "Optionalbereich" instead, thus creating a seemingly second minor out of this potential. Do not get confused by this! For your VSLT major you can freely choose in the course of your studies classes from the "Optionalbereich" in order to fulfill the requirement of 15 CP, which are added to the total amount of 93 CP of your major.

Then they have to register directly at our department - this is initially done by filling out a sheet with their personal data and by handing in a photograph at our office once. The registration at our office is the prerequisite for the acquisition of "Scheine" (certificates of successful participation) and has to be repeated at the beginning of every semester within a designated time frame announced on the notice board at the department.

The same holds for Erasmus students who also have to be registered with name, personal data and photograph at our office.

Student Representatives

Student Representatives are elected by the students of our department and are responsible for the communication between students and staff/department. They also take care of foreign students, i.e. they can help with questions concerning the organisation of studies. They are also in for the odd Christmas or summer party.

They have a room where they regularly hold office hours (Building C5 3, basement).
