Prerequisites

The course of studies Applied Linguistics and Translating/Interpreting is to enable students to transfer written or oral texts of all kinds (e. g. newspaper articles, advertising texts, technical texts) into another language so that text type, contents and intention remain intact.

Besides the interest in foreign languages, the following requirements should be met:

• excellent command of the basic language and its stylistic characteristics
  (Most of the students in department 4.6 are German or French native speakers. Thus, the basic language of the course is either German or French. English native speakers must choose one of the above as their basic language.)

• interest in economic, scientific, political and cultural aspects of both home country and of foreign countries

• willingness to continuously familiarize oneself with hitherto unfamil-iar fields of knowledge

• interest in the theoretical and methodical bases of translating and interpreting.
