earliest traces of human activity in the investigation area: palaeolithic and mesolithic finds: microliths and fire places 
phase of celtic settlement: tomb of the princess and ceramic finds, phase of economic boom in the region - verified by imported goods from the mediterranean region
phase of roman settlement: Villa of Reinheim and Vicus of Bliesbruck
medieval: In the 5. century the immigration of  the Franks terminates the Roman period in this area. Evidences from this time are the tombs of Gersheim and Walsheim. The settlements of the Franks lie outside the flood plain. 
today: the region is characterized by agriculture, between Bliesbruck and Reinheim lies the french-german border
