Project: Cell Dynamics

Rheological properties of cells are important for wound-healing, organ-formation during embryogenesis, cancer and many more. For a better understanding we develop a technique where the rheological properties of a "monolayer" of cells can be probed. The measurements are performed using a commercial rheometer in which the cells are held between a plate-plate geometry. The idea is that measuring a large population of cells has the advantage of obtaining the average behaviour of single cell stretching experiments. That makes the experiments highly reproducable and reliable.
Thermo Scientific HAAKE MARS Rheometer
The innovative Thermo Scientific HAAKE MARS (Modular Advanced Rheometer System) platform, was designed for flexibility – now and into the future – to maximize your instrument investment. The platform meets the most demanding requirements in Research & Development with an architecture that permits custom modules to be integrated into the system.                                                                                                                                                         more details....
