The Jung group deals with the production, mechanical characterisation and simulation of the mechanical properties of foams and metamaterials.
Special interest is on the following research topics:
- Electrochemical synthesis of cellular hybrid materials (foams, auxetic metamaterials).
- Quasi-static and dynamic material characterisation on all scales
- Multiaxial mechanical characterisation and probing of yield surfaces
- Numerical simulation and phenomenological modelling
Cellular materials, such as foams and metamaterials, combine high stiffness with low weight and are able to absorb kinetic energies, such as in a crash. The research group is particularly interested in elucidating the strong structure-property relationship in cellular materials.
This means that the macroscopic properties of cellular materials are strongly influenced by their microstructure, such as the pore size and pore geometry, the strut geometry and microstructure of the struts, as well as a possible coating.
