Die Auswirkungen der Flüchtlingskrise auf die europäischen Gesellschaften

Akten der 2. Saarbrücker Europa-Konferenz

This volume summarises the contributions of the 2nd Saarbrücker Europa-Konferenz, which was organised on 9 and 10 November 2018 by the CEUS on the topic Refugee Crisis, Migration Crisis, European Crisis? The impact of the refugee crisis on European societies. The event was already the second of this format and followed on from the 1st Saarbrücker Europa- Konferenz (Europe, quo vadis? What defines a European?) from 2016.

The subject of the 2nd Saarbrücker Europa-Konferenz was not only topical, but also explosive. For the refugee movements of recent years have put our idea of Europe to the test for various reasons and perspectives and raised numerous questions: What are the common European values obliging us to do? Isn't the right of asylum part of the canon of fundamental rights and therefore part of the basic attitudes that form our identity as Europeans? To what extent are concerns about overburdening the social systems justified? Are the refugees an opportunity for societies in view of the demographic forecasts? How do we deal with the part of Europe's population that responds to the migration wave by voting for right-wing populist parties? What does integration mean and how can, how should it be managed? ...

All these questions, which only begin to describe the problem, can be analysed and answered at various levels, and this volume aims to contribute to this.

Europaforschung interdisziplinär (Beiträge zur 1. und 2. "Europa-Ringvorlesung" des Europa-Kollegs CEUS)

One of the first activities launched by the CEUS at the beginning of its operational work in 2014 was the organisation of a two-part public “lecture series Europe” (“Europa-Ringvorlesung”) in the winter semester 2014/15 and in the summer semester 2015 on the sub-topics “Border Spaces, Border Constructions and Border Crossings” and “Processes of Rapprochement and Demarcation in the European Cultural Area”.

Part 1 discussed geographical borders, but also subject borders, language borders, cultural borders and border crossings; Part 2 was devoted to differences and similarities in the development of language and culture as well as politics and media in Europe.

The volume was published by Alma Mater in winter 2020.

Fluchtraum Europa: Interdisziplinäre Perspektiven

This publication is based on the 3rd “lecture series Europe”  (“Europa-Ringvorlesung”) with the topic “Europe as a refugee space – interdisciplinary perspectives” from the winter semester 2016/2017.

The volume is part of the collaborative research initiative (highlighting the issue of “Flucht”).

With its interdisciplinary character, this volume provides a multifaceted overview of flight, refuge and displacement in the context of Europe, spanning the period from antiquity to the present. Its basic chapters illuminate the legal background to the subject and refer to historical discourse connections. By means of historical case studies and the use of the topic of flight in literature and film, the contributions the book contains sketch the contours of Europe as a space of flight and refuge and the research perspectives associated with it. Further information on this volume can be found here.
