Middle- and long-term objective of mobilization is an extension or maintenance of a maximal possible movement amplitude in the various joints (Thienes, 2000, S. 66). Repetitive movements of the joint lead to an enhanced release of synovial fluid which reduces the joint friction, allows a better distribution of pressure when it comes to loads and thus reduces the stress of the joint cartilage.
