Recent years have seen a huge growth in demand for evaluation and for qualified evaluators. Saarland University and Saarland University of Applied Sciences have responded by establishing the interdisciplinary degree programme "Master of Evaluation".

This graduate degree programme is the only one of its kind in Germany and is offered as a four-semester part-time conversion Master's programme for working professionals. It is principally aimed at graduates of the social sciences and the humanities, but is open to graduates from other disciplines and other countries. The programme is practically oriented and has been designed to get students to address and engage with the academic issues that shape and inform the subject of evaluation, and to enable them to acquire the skills needed to work as expert consultants in the field. The programme also deals with key skills relating to quality management and quality development within organizations.

The first phase of the "Master of Evaluation" programme teaches the knowledge and skills that are regarded as fundamental to the discipline. Major areas addressed during this phase include the theory and practice of evaluation, organizational knowledge, data acquisition and data analysis methods, realisation of evaluation processes, economic evaluation as well as key skills in communication and moderation, negotiating skills, mediation and reporting.

The second phase of the programme builds on the first and allows students to gain a deeper understanding of one of the following areas of practical relevance within the field of evaluation: international development, social services, education and the health sector. The Master's programme also includes a ten-week professional work experience phase. Financial support for a study-abroad period is also available as part of a cooperative university partnership with Costa Rica that is funded by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD).

Please note

This Master's programme is taught in German. Students interested in a course of study taught in English may apply for the Master (Blended Learning) of Evaluation MABLE.
