The Master’s degree programme "Health and Exercise Science" is split into two parts: In the first stage of the programme, students become acquainted with relevant research methods, methodology and statistics, organizational research, evaluation and quality assurance, and communication and cooperation. The second stage of the programme focuses on advanced study in a career-relevant area. During this stage of the programme students learn to design, implement and evaluate sports and exercise programmes for both injury prevention and rehabilitation.

Students learn the required skills and techniques in modules covering research, evaluation, communication, programme design and development, prevention and rehabilitation. During the Master's programme students also complete a work placement/internship, which may be undertaken abroad. As an alternative to a work placement or internship, students can participate in an approved research project.

Graduates from the programme are able to plan, implement, execute and evaluate physical activity and therapeutic training programmes for people with general internal medical disorders (typically cardiovascular and pulmonary disorders) or those with orthopaedic, neurological and psychological disorders. Future employers include organizations and professional associations, insurance companies, health insurance providers, institutions in the social services and social care sectors, etc. The interpersonal skills acquired over the course of the programme mean that graduates are also capable of actively managing residential and domiciliary care programmes in the health sector.
