International foundation programme VSi MINT

The international foundation programme VSi MINT has been designed to enable candidates who do not have a recognized higher education entrance qualification and whose German is not yet proficient enough for normal study to join Saarland University's special Bachelor Plus MINT programme. (Note: The German acronym 'MINT' is equivalent to the English acronym 'STEM', which stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics.)

Programme structure

The international foundation programme VSi MINT is split into two parts:

Part 1 (duration: one semester)
  • German language course at the International Study Centre Saar in combination with specialist foundation courses in mathematics and physics.
  • Requirement: Spoken and written command of German at level B2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages, as determined by our diagnostic language test.
  • If your German is not yet at B2 level, you can join a lower level language course. These language courses are offered at all levels from A0 (complete beginners) through to B1.2 (intermediate users). Please note: These lower level language courses are not part of the International foundation programme VSi MINT.
Part 2 (duration: two semesters)
  • Higher level preparatory courses in mathematics and in other STEM subjects.
  • A large number of courses are offered, allowing you to select courses that match your own personal interests and strengths. To optimize learning progression, supplementary courses in mathematics and in German for technical and scientific purposes are also offered.

If you successfully complete the VSi MINT foundation programme, you will automatically receive a subject-specific entrance qualification for the Bachelor Plus MINT degree programme at Saarland University.

How to apply

You will first need to obtain preliminary review documentation from uni-assist. Once you have received your preliminary review certificate, you can then apply directly to Saarland University for admission to the 'Bachelor Plus MINT' degree programme and for a place on a German language course at the International Study Centre Saar.
