FAQs: Applying for admission and enrolling

How can I check the status of my application?

If you applied directly to Saarland University, log in via the document uploader portal using your applicant number. The status of your application is shown in the section of the screen below the list of documents that you have uploaded. If you applied for admission via hochschulstart.de (or via the DoSV procedure), you can review the status of your application by logging in to your user account at the hochschulstart.de website.

Can I check that my documents were uploaded correctly?

Yes. Log in to the document uploader portal. If you applied through the dialogue-oriented service procedure (DoSV) to join the Bachelor’s degree programme in biology or psychology, please log in via the DoSV uploader portal. The file list shows which documents have been received by the Admissions Office. If you want to check that one of your documents is complete or that its content is correct, you can download it from the server by double clicking on the corresponding file in the list.

Can I find out where I am on the admissions list for a programme that is subject to local entry restrictions?

No, we are unable to provide this information. However, you will get some indication by examining the admission grade thresholds from previous semesters.

I am seeking admission to a degree programme that is subject to local entry restrictions. What are my chances of getting a place through the ordered waiting list?

We are unable to provide this information to you. If a waiting list is created for your programme after the normal allocation phase has ended, you will automatically be placed on the waiting list, unless you chose to opt out. Admissions letters for any places allocated from the waiting list will normally be sent out in September. You may also want to register for the clearing scheme, which may be set up if not all places on a programme have been allocated. For details regarding applications for admission to the Bachelor’s degree programmes in biology and psychology, please visit hochschulstart.de.

Do I stay on the waiting list for a degree programme if I have already accepted a place on another programme? Am I also allowed to register for the local clearing scheme?

Yes. If a waiting list is established for your programme once  the normal allocation phase has ended, you will be placed on the waiting list automatically, unless you chose to opt out. You may also want to register for the clearing scheme, which may be set up if not all places on a programme have been allocated. For details regarding applications for admission to the Bachelor’s degree programmes in biology and psychology, please visit hochschulstart.de.

When are notification letters sent out to applicants applying for higher-level admission to a programme?

Admission letters for applicants seeking higher-level admission to a degree programme are sent out at the beginning of October for winter semester entry and at the beginning of April for summer semester entry. Please note that if you have been asked to supply missing documents, the Admissions Office must receive these by no later than 30 September if you are seeking winter semester entry or by 31 March for summer semester entry.

Do I also need to submit paper documents when I enrol?

No, enrolment is done online. Please do not submit paper documents.

Do I need to re-upload my higher education entrance qualification when I enrol?

No, you do not need to do that if you have received a letter of admission from us.
If you want to enrol directly for a degree programme that is not subject to entry restrictions, you will need to upload all of the required documentation, including your higher education entrance qualification.

When will I receive my enrolment confirmation documents?

Once you have submitted your online enrolment application and have uploaded all of the required documents, processing can take up to four weeks from the date of submission. Enrolment confirmation documents (information sheet and your UdS Card) will be sent to you by post.

Where do I get my certificate of enrolment?

After you have been enrolled, you will receive an information sheet and your student ID card (UdS Card). The information sheet contains your student user ID and a password. You must first change your password by accessing the internet address specified on the information sheet. After that, you can print out your certificate of enrolment in the HIS-LSF Portal.

What is the UdS Card?

The multifunctional chip card functions as your student ID card and as your travel ticket for local public transport services. For more information about the UdS Card, please visit the dedicated webpage: Starting to study at Saarland University.
