German Language Courses

Language Courses "German as a Foreign Language for Doctoral Researchers"

The German language courses are open to international doctoral researchers, who want to improve their German language skills. Besides general linguistic competencies (grammar, listening comprehension, reading comprehension, writing) the courses stress common, everyday situations in academic contexts, e.g., making phone calls, answering e-mails etc.

Given that the courses are targeted at doctoral researchers from all subject areas, they do not teach a vocabulary restricted to a particular scientific discipline. Course materials are developed and provided by the instructors to accommodate the needs and interests of course participants.

Two courses are offered, a beginners-level* course (level A2) and an intermediate-level course (level B1/B2). The German courses are offered in cooperation with the International Office at Saarland University.

*no absolute beginners; requirement of at least 80 hours study in German
