About the Project

The UdS-HIPS-TANDEM initiative aims to characterize, modulate and model specific microbiota from patient cohorts with regard to their relevance for infection processes.  The long-term goal is to lay the foundation for an early and rapid diagnosis of infection processes and their therapeutic influence and to evaluate them in various preclinical models. This will be based on a fundamental microbiological and cell biological understanding of the pro and eukaryotic single cells and cell populations involved, as well as their cellular signals and molecular interactions.

Within the framework of this strategic research alliance between the Saarland University (UdS) and the Helmholtz Institute for Pharmaceutical Research Saarland (HIPS), joint research projects in the field of therapeutic modelling and modulation of cellular signals in infections, are facilitated in order to provide targeted support for interdisciplinary cooperation between the top research areas of the university's NanoBioMed and the non-university partner HIPS. To this end, scientists from HIPS and the faculties NT and MI at the Saarbrücken site in particular will be brought together with scientists from clinical medicine and basic medicine at the faculty M in Homburg.
