Moritz Weber wird zum Professor für Mathematik ernannt

Moritz Weber, zurzeit Juniorprofessor für Mathematik an der Universität des Saarlandes, erhielt am Freitag den 26.02.2021 in der Staatskanzlei die Ernennungsurkunde zum Professor für Mathematik.

Moritz Weber studierte Mathematik an der Westfälischen Wilhelms-Universität Münster und schloss sein Studium mit dem Diplom ab. Neue Professorin für Didaktik der Primarstufe tritt ihre Stelle an

Frau Melanie Platz nimmt ihren Dienst als Professorin für Didaktik der Primarstufe – Schwerpunkt Mathematik an der Universität des Saarlandes auf.
Melanie Platz, zuvor Hochschulprofessorin für Mathematikdidaktik in der Primarausbildung an der Pädagogischen Hochschule Tirol, nahm am 1. März 2021 ihren Dienst als Professorin für Didaktik der Primarstufe – Schwerpunkt Mathematik an der Universität des Saarlandes auf.

SFB/TRR 195 für weitere vier Jahre bewilligt

Der von der DFG finnazierte Sonderforschungsbereich/Transregio „Symbolische Werkzeuge in der Mathematik und ihre Anwendung“ wurde für weitere vier Jahre bewilligt.
Von 2021-2024 wird er  mit insgesamt rund 8,5 Millionen Euro finanziert. Die Mitglieder in diesem Verbund sind TU Kaiserslautern, RWTH Aachen und die Universität des Saarlandes. Darüber hinaus sind auch Forscher an dem Max-Planck-Institut für Mathematik in den Naturwissenschaften Leipzig, der Universität Stuttgart, der TU Berlin und…

As part of the Faculty MI, the Department of Mathematics is located in the buildings E1.1, E1.7, E2.4 and E2.5. Currently, 18 professors teach and conduct research in our department.

The mathematical areas in Saarbrücken are:

There are strong collaborations with the Department of Computer Science and the Max Planck Institute for Informatics in the areas of discrete mathematics, complexity theory, and computational geometry.

Our department is part of the  transregional collaborative research centre (SFB-TRR)  „Symbolic Tools in Mathematics and their Application" jointly run with the mathematics departments at the universities TU Kaiserslautern and RWTH Aachen, and including  participating researchers from TU Berlin, Max-Planck-Institute MiS Leipzig, University of Stuttgart, and University of Tübingen.

It is a particular goal of our department to encourage students early in their mathematical career to participate in research projects within the working groups of our department. This is enabled by intensive supervision and high quality mentoring (e.g. in the first semester additional exercise sections accompanying lectures with at most 20 participants) and a very personal and direct contact to the instructors of the courses.
