Werner Zeh Foundation

The Werner Zeh Foundation is a non-profit foundation under civil law. The purpose of the foundation is to promote science, research and studies at Saarland University.

The purpose of the foundation is realized in particular by promoting projects that are suitable for significantly improving the treatment of life-threatening diseases. To this end, the foundation supports research projects, including those that are associated with a stay abroad, or projects that involve the preparation of a project 
proposal or supplementary measures as part of a research project. 

Projects from theoretical medicine and medicine-related biosciences as well as 
clinical research are eligible for funding. Applicants must have a doctorate, but may 
not be university professors.

 

Funding

The Executive Board decides on all matters concerning the foundation. The Executive Board consists of at least 3 members. It consists of

  • the founder or a person to be nominated by the founder
  • Persons with special expertise and experience in relation to the purposes of the foundation

 

 

2025

This year's winner of the Werner Zeh Foundation Award, selected by the foundation's board of directors, is PD Dr. Ulrich Wissenbach, from the Institute for Experimental and Clinical Pharmacology and Toxicology at Saarland University and PZMS - Preclinical Center for Molecular Signal Processing.

His project is entitled: “TRPV6 – as a trigger of chronic pancreatitis and skeletal dysplasia in newborns, overexpressed in prostate, breast, and endometrial carcinoma. Involved in the clinical picture of mucolipidosis type II.”

 

 

2024

In 2024, Dr. Claudia Fecher-Trost was selected by the Foundation Board as the recipient of the Werner Zeh Foundation Award.

Her project is entitled: “Identification of proteins for the diagnosis and treatment of preeclampsia.”
