Franz-Mai Foundation

The non-profit Franz Mai Foundation was established by Christine Heinrich-Mai, the widow of SR founding director Franz Mai. Dr. Franz Mai was the director of Saarländischer Rundfunk (Saarland Public Broadcasting Company) from 1 January 1958 to 1 January 1978 and, among other things, was a long-time chairman of the Franco-German Society e.V., promoting relations in the Franco-German-Luxembourg triangle. The foundation currently supports ten scholarship holders through the Saar Study Foundation in cooperation with the ‘Deutschlandstipendium’ (Germany Schloarship).

Funding purpose

The purpose of the foundation is to promote science, research and studies, mainly through scholarships for talented students at Saarland University.

It also promotes research into regional literature in the Saar-Lor-Lux border region through donations to the Saar-Lor-Lux Literature Archive.
