Innovative Diagnostics for AMR and Pathogen Identification

Our Clinical and Diagnostic Microbiology research group focuses on advanced diagnostic technologies to improve AMR detection and pathogen identification. A major area of interest is the integration of MALDI-TOF mass spectrometry with artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) for faster and more accurate diagnostics.

Key projects include:

  • Advanced MALDI-TOF data analysis for better species differentiation
  • AI- and ML-supported prediction of antimicrobial resistance in MDR Gram-negative pathogens (e.g., Pseudomonas aeruginosa)

Additional Diagnostic Projects

  • Other ongoing initiatives include the sonication of heart valves to improve the microbiological diagnosis of infective endocarditis
