Written Feedback

Responses are always anonymous.

Did you find your appointment helpful? If no, please specify why.

  • "There was hardly ever an explanation given for the changes made to my text. It would have been so much more helpful to point to general rules (like restrictive vs. non-restrictive relative clauses, commas before "but" etc.). Comments like "sounds odd" do not help if it is not specified what exactly sounds odd. This way, i could not generalize to other cases."

Comments on staff and appointment

  • "This session was very helpful. [The tutor]  was clear and kind with [their] observations. After the meeting, the sentences and paragraphs I had most troubles writing where better structured or had an outline of how to structure them better."
  • "It was a very nice experience. I was given a clear understanding of my mistakes. And it has helped me improve my writing."
  • "I visited the Writing Center for checking up on my resume and letter of motivation. I am really glad someone could help me twice in such a short frame of time. My cv and motivational letter look much better and I am confident in applying to jobs or scholarships with my reviewed application documents."
  • "After rephrasing paragraphs with [the tutor's] help, I developed a much clearer way to explain things that seemed more complicated before the appointment."
  • "I did not have really an appointment, I had a text proofread. I do understand all the feedbacks on this text, thank you."
  • "There was no appointment, only mail. (I had to click on a duration below, though. I suggest changing the answer options)."
  • "I was very happy with the appointment. I was given clear feedback precise to my assignment and the instructor was very nice and non-judgemental."
  • "The Writing Center responded much quicker and detailed than I expected."

Do you have any suggestions for the Writing Center in the future or general comments?

  • "I frequently ask for help with proofreading and never got disappointed. This time, as usually, your help is highly appreciated. A rather long text I sent is now smooth are reader-friendly. Also, I received it way before the deadline, which is meaningful in the last stages of preparing my dissertation. In my humble opinion, the Writing Center is one of the most valuable initiatives at UdS! [...], thank you very much for your help."
  • "Should be easier to find on university website from main page"
  • "I found the comments helpful, but I think it would be better if they knew the content better as I need more input on content."
  • "Thank you very much! Your work is greatly appreciated!"
  • "Great work! Thank you."
  • "I am very happy my text was able to be proofread at such short notice [...]. The comments were very thorough but also clear. I hope this service is something the university continues to offer as it is helpful for students who frequently publish in English. I think it would be better if there was more than one person offering this service as it is needed by more than a few students, more than a few departments even."
  • "It would be helpful to be more clear about the timeline for corrections in advance. Even for proofreading, I would suggest making an appointment, just to clarify that the persons involved are on the same page, e.g., about the level of corrections and suggestions. I would suggest that more suggestions are made during proofreading and that the staff sets pointers to the relevant rules. In general, I think the writing center is a wonderful idea but the implementation, at least from my experience, needs some finetuning."
  • "It would be really awesome if students could book appoinments in the calendar directly. Otherwise it can happen that an appointment that is labeled as free is already taken (due to a prio registration via email). But it's not too much of a hassle with the current system as well."
  • "More advertisements would be nice because I think it is not widely known that such a service exists. Maybe more Staff that more thinks can be processed in parallel."
  • "The Writing Center staff was super kind to me during our appointment and provided helpful feedback, which is why I will definitely make another appointment for my next paper!"
