Library
About
The Department of Romance Languages maintains its own reference library containing approx. 95,000 volumes/items, making it one of the largest libraries within the Faculty of Humanities at Saarland University, alongside the German Language and Literature library. It is located in the SULB building (Building B1 1) on the main campus in Saarbrücken.
Key focus areas of the library include French, Spanish and Italian linguistics and literary studies as well as intercultural communication. Special inventory include a collection of older French textbooks and teaching materials and around 1,200 volumes that were published before 1850. The complete collection acquired from 1999 onwards can be viewed in the SWB online catalogue (Südwestdeutscher Bibliotheksverbund) and in the Saarland Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC). Some of the French and Spanish inventory acquired before 1999 are only indexed in the alphabetical card catalogue. This older part of inventory is currently undergoing retrospective cataloguing. If you are looking for literature from this period, the departmental library team will gladly assist you.
