On December 30, 2025, during the "Alle Wetter" program (clip from 7:30  to 12:28) on Hessischer Rundfunk, Prof. Martin Müser spoke with Simone Kienast to explain the physics behind why we slip on ice.

Our recent paper, Cold Self-Lubrication of Sliding Ice, recently attracted media attention following a press release from Saarland University. Coverage appeared on Phys.org,idw-online, Spiegel Online and other various German resources, as well as some international media including biobiochile.cl, zap.aeiou.pt, focus.ua and others.

 

The Surface Topography Challenge now has its own website. 

This multidisciplinary study was published in Tribology Letters, with Martin serving as one of the lead authors.: A. Pradhan, M. H. Müser, ... (>100 contestants) ..., L. Pastewka, T. Jacobs, Tribol. Lett. 73, 110 (2025)
