In addition to their research and teaching activities, Professor Meyer and his team also provide round-the-clock clinical toxicology services for the clinical departments of the Saarland University Medical Center and for external hospitals.

The services offered include clinical toxicology testing and specialist assessments in the following areas:

  • Toxicological analysis
  • Abstinence monitoring
  • Adherence and compliance monitoring
  • ...

Samples analysed include:

  • EDTA whole blood (5–10 ml), mandatory for quantification (avoid use of alcoholic disinfectants!)
  • Urine (10–30 ml), mandatory for screening and identification
  • Gastric juice
  • Drug or toxin residues, substance samples
  • Other materials (e.g. saliva, meconium) on request

Sampling requirements:

  • Paracetamol quantitation: Blood sample to be taken and submitted 4 h after ingestion
  • Salicylate quantitation (aspirin, ASS): Blood sample to be taken and submitted 6 h after ingestion
