Company run Saarbrücken 2026

This summer semester, the UNISPORT Center would once again like to encourage all students and staff at the university to take part in a company run together. This year, we will be participating in the company run in Saarbrücken. The Saarbrücken company run will take place on Tuesday, June 2, 2026. The start time is 6:00 p.m. The registration deadline is Sunday, May 3, 2026.
In recent years, the university has been able to field the largest group, with well over 1,000 participants in some cases. We want to achieve this goal again this year. To do so, we need your help! Motivate your colleagues or fellow students and join them and our university team at the starting line. Everyone can participate! Walking groups are also welcome (for safety reasons, walking sticks are unfortunately not allowed). The route is 5 km long.
For organizational and financial reasons, the university supports participation in ONE company run each year. Therefore, the UdS can unfortunately only enable employees and students from one location to participate in a run “on their doorstep.” Participation in the company run in Homburg is planned again in one of the following years. If members of the University of Saarland would like to participate in this year's Homburg Company Run (May 21, 2026), we kindly ask them to register independently with the organizer (https://firmenlauf-homburg.de/anmeldung) as a member of the University of Saarland and to pay the registration fee privately.
Important information
The registration deadline is Sunday, May 3, 2026.
Registration for the company run is only open to university members (staff and students). Non-university members are not permitted to run for the university in the company run (organizer's requirement).
All UdS runners must register for the race via the website linked above by the registration deadline and will be automatically assigned to our university team. After crossing the finish line, all runners will be grouped into teams of three (women, men, mixed) based on their actual finishing times. The three fastest women’s, men’s, and mixed teams will be honored after the race. Registration in teams of three is no longer possible through the organizer this year.
Late registrations are unfortunately not possible.
The university will cover part of the registration fee. Runners will only be required to pay a contribution of 10 euros toward expenses. (For further information on the cost contribution, see below.)
The route remains unchanged from 2025 and is exactly 5 km long. From the start at the Staatstheater, the route runs along Mainzer Straße in the direction of Ostspange. At kilometer 2.5, near the power station, you will reach the refreshment point where you can refresh yourself with water. The running course continues along Bismarckstaße with a view of the Saar back towards the Staatstheater. A great atmosphere awaits you on the last kilometer: you will be cheered to the finish line by numerous spectators on the banks of the Saar and across the St. Johanner Markt. The running course is flat and asphalted throughout. All sections of the route are accessible and therefore also suitable for participants with disabilities.
Here you can find the approximate route.
The distribution of race numbers and running shirts is expected to take place on the following dates:

Friday, May 29, 2026, from 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

In recent years, many of you have participated in the company run with great commitment and team spirit – on behalf of the university, we would like to thank you once again for this. In recent years, we have almost always fielded the largest team, with almost 2,000 participants last year. Participation in the company run is an important joint event for the university, showcasing us as a strong, diverse academic community and an attractive employer.
Unfortunately, we have noticed that in recent years, a considerable number of registered university members have not shown up on the day of the event. So far, this has not resulted in any costs for the participants, but the university incurs fixed, not inconsiderable entry fees for each registration – regardless of whether someone actually runs or not. In addition, many T-shirts were given out free of charge, which were then not visible at the run itself.
In order to continue to enable as many university members as possible to participate while at the same time using the available funds responsibly, we have agreed with the university management to charge a contribution of €10 this year. The university will continue to cover the majority of the registration costs. The moderate contribution – which, incidentally, has also been introduced by other employers – will enable us to offset some of the expenses incurred and ensure that participation in the company run remains possible.
We also hope that this measure will increase commitment. We are aware that even a small amount can be a hurdle for some. That is why we have taken care to keep the fee as low as possible. At the same time, we ask for your understanding that we have to make this adjustment in order to continue to enable all interested university members to participate in a fair and well-organized manner. We look forward to seeing you again this year and representing the university together with us in the company run!
Mit freundlicher Unterstützung
