Project Summary

Drosophila has emerged as a valuable genetic model for studying how a simple epithelium seals and how epithelial wounds repair by a series of events that integrate epithelial responses with those of resident and infiltrating immune cells. Here, we will use an advanced ‘extravasation’ Drosophila wounding model that allows us to analyze the crosstalk between epithelial and immune cells during wound healing in real time in vivo. We will use this model to identify conserved key players and downstream events orchestrating the intricate interplay between epithelial cells and infiltrating immune cells in response to damage and infection.
