Researchers enjoy freedom of science as guaranteed by Germany's Basic Law. At the same time, they are obliged to account for their work to society, in particular by truthfulness, completeness, transparency, methodical honesty and verifiability of their research. They ensure their scientific integrity by consistently applying the rules of good scientific practice and also taking into account important ethical principles in research.
