What is Systems Engineering?

Systems engineering holds the key to solving the complex challenges of today's world. This forward-thinking programme combines mechanical, electrical and information engineering with essential elements of management and organization. You'll gain the skills to design, develop and optimize complex technical systems and processes – from start to finish. With their ability to deliver innovative, integrated solutions, systems engineers are in high demand across industries looking to solve tomorrow’s challenges.

What will I learn?

During your degree, you'll acquire a broad, solid foundation in the natural sciences and engineering. You'll learn to see technical systems as a whole, starting from the materials right through to understanding complex processes.

A range of specialization options enables you to build expertise in the areas that interest you most during your Bachelor's degree and further expand on this knowledge during your Master's degree. In addition to traditional engineering subjects, the modules include content from computer science, materials science and economics.

And if you want to continue researching after your Master's degree, the path to a doctorate is open to you!

Why study Systems Engineering?
  • Hands-on learning that spans multiple disciplines: Studying systems engineering means combining engineering expertise with management skills while working on real-world projects. It's the ideal way to prepare for the challenges of your future career.
  • Excellent career prospects: A degree in systems engineering opens numerous doors – from project management in industry to research and development in high-tech companies.
  • Help shape the future! Electromobility, renewable energy or smart systems – as a systems engineer you'll be directly involved with developing the technologies of the future.
Study and research

Modern technical systems are complex – their development requires more than just traditional engineering knowledge. That's why the Bachelor's degree programme in Systems Engineering follows an interdisciplinary approach based on national and international standards. Please note that the programme is conducted in German.

From the fundamentals of natural and engineering sciences right through to system modelling, simulation and production, you'll learn to understand technical processes holistically and develop innovative solutions. Besides subject-specific knowledge, the focus is on teamwork, communication and joined up thinking that extends beyond subject boundaries.

During your Bachelor's degree, you can already play an active role in research and practical work through team projects, by contributing to current research projects or by undertaking a Bachelor's thesis with one of our industry and research partners in Germany or abroad. With all this under your belt, you'll be perfectly prepared for your future as an engineer!

What careers are open to me?

As a systems engineer, all doors are open to you both in Germany and abroad – from innovative start-ups to globally active companies. Engineers with a broad skill set are highly sought after! Whether your career takes you to the energy sector, digitalization, manufacturing, mobility or medical engineering, you'll be shaping the technologies of the future.
