...to the Homepage of the Chair of Lightweight Systems

The Chair of Lightweight Systems deals with the fields of lightweight design concerning concept, shape, materials and manufacturing throughout the entire value chain from the initial idea through laboratory model to prototype applications. The guiding principle is the intelligent, robust lightweight design, i.e. the right weight reduction in the right place with optimum cost, optimum sustainability and optimal quality.

The Chair works closely with the Fraunhofer Institute for Nondestructive Testing (IZFP) and the Chair of Nondestructive Testing and Quality Assurance (Prof. Boller).

The following research topics are of special interest to us:

  • Robust Lightweight Design
  • Lifecycle-oriented structural optimization
  • Multi-Functional Lightweight Systems
  • Structural Health Monitoring of Lightweight Systems
  • Biomimetics for Lightweight Systems
  • Value-based Assessment of Lightweight Structures
