Lecture series: Computational Social Science

Computational Social Science is the intersection between social sciences and computer science. This new discipline uses computational methods to address societally relevant research questions.

During the winter term 2026/27, SOUNDS offers a lecture series for students and guest listeners that introduces them to this new field. Every session introduces a societally relevant problem and shows the computational methods used to examine these problems.

Kick-Off "SOUNDS of Society"

Get to know SOUNDS

SOUNDS invites you to a public kick-off at the Innovation Center on Campus Saarbrücken. The event has two non-exclusive focal points, so you can choose your focus or attend the whole event:

  • Morning – scientific focus: SOUNDS of SOCIETY & SOUNDS of CODING (from 09:30)
    Research topics and methods, networking research, identifying shared focal points and developing perspectives. With welcome, keynote, poster session, and a speed-dating format for getting to know each other, networking, and initiating future collaborations.
  • Afternoon – societal focus: SOUNDS for SOCIETY & SOUNDS in DIALOGUE (14:00 to 17:00)
    Taking up needs, shaping impact, and strengthening collaboration – carrying it into society. With keynote, welcome addresses, and interactive dialogue formats to identify questions from business, administration, and society, initiate new collaborations, and promote the transfer of scientific findings into practice.

At midday there is a joint break with catering, and after the event there is also the opportunity to keep networking at SOUNDS Beats and let the day wind down in a relaxed atmosphere. You are warmly invited, whether for one focus or the whole day.
