The next talk in the mathematical colloquium will take place Monday, 12th of December 2022,  4:15 pm in HS IV and via Teams.

Title: Dilation theory and its applications
Speaker: Prof. Dr. Orr Shalit
Abstract:
Dilation theory is a collection of results, tools and techniques in operator theory that all stem from one big idea: you can learn a lot about an operator by viewing it as a ``part of" of another, well understood operator. I will try to explain this big idea by way of examples. I will first discuss the most basic and classical dilation theorems and their applications. Then I will tell you about some recent results in dilation theory, and how these results interact with representations of C*-algebras, noncommutative tori, and the Heisenberg commutation relations.
