We are delighted to announce that the 7th edition of Experimental and Corpus-Based Approaches to Ellipsis (ECBAE) will take place on site at Saarland University, Saarbrücken, Germany, on September 8-9, 2025.

Invited speakers

Gabriela Bîlbîie (University of Bucharest)
Masaya Yoshida (Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, ICREA, Institució Catalana de Recerca i Estudis Avançats )

Workshop description

The workshop brings together researchers using empirical methods to investigate the structure and usage of ellipsis. Building on previous editions of ECBAE, it will provide an opportunity to discuss (i) how our understanding of the theory and usage of ellipsis can be informed by empirical studies and (ii) how different empirical methods can be improved or combined in the research on ellipsis.

We welcome contributions from any linguistic subfield, including, but not limited to, syntax, semantics, pragmatics, psycho/neurolinguistics, corpus linguistics, historical linguistics, typology and computational linguistics, using any empirical method (including corpus studies, acceptability rating, eye-tracking, self-paced reading, neuroimaging or computational modeling).

Travel and local information

Traveling to Saarbrücken

The large international airports nearest to Saarbrücken are: Frankfurt (FRA), Luxembourg (LUX) and Paris (CDG and ORY). Traveling from London to Saarbrücken (via Paris) using the Eurostar only takes 5.5 hours. From Frankfurt, Saarbrücken can be reached by train (Deutsche Bahn) directly or with a single transfer. From Luxembourg, there are direct busses from Luxembourg’s main train station to Saarbrücken. The L40 costs 5€ and can be booked via (Deutsche Bahn or SNCB.

Getting around in Saarbrücken

To travel within Saarbrücken and from the city center to Saarland University, we recommend using the SaarVV trip planner (Saarfahrplan) (also available as an app). If you are traveling by car, you have three parking options at the university (find all information regarding parking here):
Parking zone A (central campus zone)

  • no charge for short-stay parking (up to 60 minutes), between 5 p.m. and 7 a.m., or on weekends
  • on weekdays between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m.: first hour free of charge, second hour EUR 4, then EUR 2 per hour or part thereof

Because of the limited parking space on campus, it is recommended to use the car parksP2 (Uni Mitte) and P3 (Uni Ost) instead!

  • EUR 1 per hour (first hour is free and the max. daily charge are EUR 3)
  • The car parks are closed weekdays from 11 p.m. to 4 a.m.
Accommodation

Since the campus of Saarland University is located outside of town, but well connected with public transport (bus), it is convenient to book a hotel in the city center. In case of traveling by car, we recommend to consider booking a parking spot at the hotel.
