Let's explore the career fair "next" together!

Saarland University and the University of Applied Sciences (htw saar) are joining their forces to support international students and alumni to enter the German jobmarket.

Career fairs are a great opportunity to find your dream job in Germany, and especially here in Saarland. They also offer the perfect platform to practise how to effectively present yourself and connect with company representatives. Sometimes taking the first step in approaching companies can feel challenging — and that’s exactly where we can support you.

Melina and Özge from the Career Services for international students at Saarland University and the University of Applied Sciences are offering a guided tour for international students at the upcoming career fair “next” on campus at Saarland University. Join them to get a fast track into understanding how the fair works, how to approach companies, and how to make the most out of your visit.

In Zusammenarbeit mit unseren Referent*innen zeigen wir dir, wie du realistische Gehaltsvorstellungen entwickelst und diese souverän kommunizierst. Außerdem hast du die Möglichkeit, in einer offenen Fragerunde all deine Fragen zu klären.

How do you turn your studies into a fulfilling career?

This workshop helps students take a structured and proactive approach to career planning in an increasingly complex job market.

Participants will reflect on their personal strengths, interests, values, and transferable skills, and explore how these factors influence career satisfaction and long-term success. Using evidence-based career planning models and guided exercises, the workshop supports students in identifying suitable career options, clarifying professional goals, and developing realistic next steps.

The session also addresses common challenges such as uncertainty, decision-making, and feeling overwhelmed by choices. By the end of the workshop, participants will have greater clarity about their career direction and a concrete plan for moving forward with confidence.

As an optional add-on, a second online session offering individual feedback will be available. Students who attended the initial workshop can bring the career plan they developed using the tools and insights from the session. This follow-up meeting provides the opportunity to receive personalized guidance from the trainer and refine their next steps with greater clarity.

09.06.2026 Crash Course: Working in Germany – Legal Basics for Students

Getting a job in Germany can feel overwhelming, especially when you are unfamiliar with the legal foundations of the German employment system.

This crash course provides a clear and structured introduction to the most important legal basics that students should know before entering the German job market.

The event consists of a 1.5‑hour lecture, delivered by a staff member of the Labour Chamber of Saarland (Arbeitskammer des Saarlandes). The lecture covers key topics such as employment contracts, collective agreements (Tarifverträge), Minijobs, sick leave, vacation entitlements, termination rules, and the role of trade unions. The focus is on providing reliable, easy‑to‑understand information that helps you navigate your rights and responsibilities in the German job market.

After the lecture, there will be a 30‑minute Q&A session, giving you the opportunity to ask questions and clarify points relevant to your own situation.

Have you ever found yourself in a situation where something at a German workplace felt confusing, surprisingly direct, or just completely different from what you expected?
Or do you sometimes worry that cultural misunderstandings in your new workplace might hold you back in your career growth?

If yes, this workshop is for you.

Designed for international students of Saarland University, this interactive session offers a clear, practical, and easy‑to‑apply understanding of how professional life in Germany works. From understanding the meaning of “culture” and reflecting on the feeling of unfamiliarity as a starting point, you will gain insight into hierarchies and communication styles as well as everyday expectations in the German workplace.

You will take part in interactive exercises and discussions to reflect on your own experiences and walk away with practical strategies and techniques for navigating cultural differences confidently and securing your long‑term success in the German workplace.

As a special highlight, you will have the opportunity to ask questions to a department head experienced in leading multicultural teams, who will share real‑world insights into expectations, communication habits, and managerial expectations regarding workplace behaviour in a German workplace.

Puis-je m'inscrire à plusieurs événements?

Bien sûr! Vous pouvez participer à tous les événements qui vous intéressent. Si vous souhaitez vous inscrire à plusieurs événements en même temps, inscrivez-vous au premier événement, ajoutez le deuxième événement à votre panier d'achat puis cliquez sur "Tickets für anderen Termin hinzufügen" (ajouter un ticket pour un autre événement).

 

L'événement est déjà complet. Est-il possible de s'inscrire sur une liste d'attente?

Nous essayons toujours de prévoir suffisamment de places. Si toutefois l'événement auquel vous souhaitez participer est complet, vous pouvez vous inscrire sur la liste d'attente sur la page d'inscription. Vous recevrez un message automatique contenant un code d'inscription (voucher) dès qu'une place se libère. Vous avez ensuite 48 heures pour vous inscrire en indiquant ce code. Passé ce délai, le code expirera et la place sera proposée à la personne suivante sur la liste d'attente.
