General Information
Basic information:
The Compass Programme offers short workshops (approx. 5-20 hours) that you can attend to acquire personal skills. You can choose from a wide range of different courses and do not have to adhere to any curriculum requirements: simply choose what interests you! Once you have attended a total of at least 30 hours of workshops, please contact us and we will arrange a consultation appointment, as it will then be time to create a portfolio. Once you have created your portfolio, you will receive the Key Competence Certificate from Saarland University, which counts for 3 CP in some degree programmes.
Course selection:
You can participate in all courses without having to observe any module restrictions – it doesn't matter whether you want to take Conflict Management and a programming course or a politics course and Project Management, for example. You can also attend just one course – or 10, whichever you prefer. The only requirement is interest. You will receive a certificate of participation for each course.
However, if you want to obtain the Key Competences Certificate, you must have attended at least 30 hours of workshops.
Proof of participation:
After each course you attend, you will receive a certificate of participation. The certificate of participation is not the key competence certificate and cannot be credited towards your degree programme. However, the certificate can be enclosed with a letter of application or similar to prove your skills. You will only receive the certificate if you have 30 hours of proof of participation and the portfolio.
Portfolio:
For the portfolio, you arrange a consultation appointment with us and we decide together what your portfolio should look like. You write a portfolio about at least one of the workshops you have attended, but you can also summarise several courses (if they fit thematically). The type of portfolio depends on your preferences and the workshops you have chosen. The aim of the portfolio is for you to reflect on what you have learned!
Target groups:
The Compass Programme is primarily aimed at students. However, if there are places available, other members of the University of Saarland can also participate in the courses.
Cooperation:
The Kompass programme cooperates with several other programmes and institutions at the university. Their courses are listed on our website, so be sure to check out their programmes as well! If you have attended courses with cooperation partners, please contact us and we will issue you with certificates of attendance (if the cooperation partner has not already done so).
