Schoollab GEOGIS
School laboratory Geographies of Europe: GEOGIS – Map the World
In the GEOGIS School laboratory, pupils from grade 11 onwards gain practical insight into the world of digital cartography and geodata analysis. These are important tools in modern geography that are used worldwide in many areas of public life. Using GIS software, i.e., computer programs for displaying and evaluating geographic information, pupils in the school lab create their own thematic maps, explore spatial patterns, and gain new perspectives on Europe and global contexts.
What can participants expect from the workshop?
- Introduction to geographic information systems (GIS) and their application
- Visualization of spatial data on digital maps on the computer
- Exercises with current geodata on Europe and the world
- Application to topics such as urban development, population, or economic regions
Through the interactive workshop, the pupils learn how geographic information is visualized and presented in an understandable way. Whether as preparation for studying European Studies: Geographies of Europe at Saarland University or as a practical supplement to classroom teaching, the GEOGIS school laboratory promotes digital skills and spatial thinking in equal measure.
On request, a campus tour and a visit to the cafeteria can be organized in addition to the workshop.
