General information
Going abroad as an LST student
The LST Departmental Erasmus Office advises students from the Language Science (B.A.), Computational Linguistics (B.Sc.), Translation Science and Technology (M.A.) and Language Science and Technology (M.Sc.) programmes who would like to spend one or two semesters abroad on an Erasmus+ scholarship.
If there are open places at our department's partner universities, we can also nominate students from other departments, however, students from the Language Science and Technology department have priority. For that reason, until the nomination process at the relevant university has begun, students from other departments are on standby and are only given a place if no students from the LST department apply.
Our department currently participates in exchanges with universities in Belgium, Finland, France, Greece, Great Britain, Italy, Norway, Portugal, Romania, Switzerland, Spain and Turkey. Visit our partner universities' websites for more information on the courses they offer, the application process, etc. Find our partner universities on the MoveON portal.
For more information on going abroad with Erasmus+ or other study abroad funding programmes, visit Saarland University's GoOut! Service Center website. The GoOut! Service Center provides all general information on the Erasmus+ programme and handles the general administrative aspects of the programme. Our office can answer subject-specific questions and help prepare and sign your learning agreement.
If you have decided to go abroad with Erasmus+ and found possible host universities through the International Office portal, you can get in contact with the LST Departmental Erasmus Office for any subject-specific questions. You will find our contact information in the white section at the bottom of all our pages. You should get in touch with the LST Departmental Erasmus Office regarding nomination for a place at a host university and for preparing your learning agreement, which must be completed before beginning your exchange. Unfortunately, we are not able to organize a consultation session for all of your questions, as our opening hours are limited and many students in our department participate in exchanges or are here on exchange themselves. Please keep our limited capacity in mind when it comes to scheduling appointments and to possible extended email response times. If you do not hear from us for several weeks, it does not mean you have been forgotten. If your request or question is time sensitive due to deadlines, please let us know so we can give your request priority. Our assistant for outbound exchanges, Ümit Altar Binici, who manages administrative processes, can only dedicate two hours per week to coordinating Erasmus. If you have questions regarding the contents of your learning agreement, get in touch with the departmental coordinator, Stefan Thater for computational linguistics programmes or with Andrea Wurm for other LST degree programmes.
Take a look at our checklist (for the moment being in German only – English translation to come) to get a better overview of the preparation process and important contacts. You can download the checklist as a PDF file.
