University will be providing limited core basic services

Until 24 April 2020 the university will maintain key basic services and perform essential functions. Administrative departments and key advisory services are being operated by staff working remotely from home and can be contacted by phone or email. The Institute for Sport Medicine and the occupational medical officer at Saarland University have set up a coronavirus telephone hotline for members of the university.

During the campus shutdown period, all core services will be provided in accordance with the university’s coronavirus pandemic response plan. Core services for students include information on student admissions and enrolment procesdures and guidance and information for prospective students. The university’s coronavirus information webpage contains a list of frequently asked questions (FAQs) for students and FAQs for university employees and provides detailed answers and information on how the university is responding to the ongoing health crisis. The university’s main administrative and policy units, the academic departments and service units are also providing regular updates on their respective websites. The key base-level services provided by the university administrative departments are being delivered in accordance with the university’s pandemic response plan.

Research work at Saarland University has been reorganized so that research staff and students do not need to be physically present at university sites. University sites also include university research laboratories located in other non-university buildings, such as those in the Saarland University Teaching Hospital (UKS). Key research infrastructure will be maintained during the campus shutdown and critical research activities will continue as far as possible. Critical research is considered to be research activities concerned with the current coronavirus epidemic and relevant clinical diagnostics. It also includes long-term research activities that would be difficult to reorganize, or where interrupting these activities would lead to a significant loss of critical data.

University employees and students can call the hotline if they have coronavirus health questions.
