I joined the Department of English at Saarland for the Summer Semester 2022, as a lecturer and course writer for the Language Courses on Moodle. However, I have known the University and Saarbrücken since delivering the keynote address at the 2016 Teacher’s Day and returning to present at it in 2017. My background is in English language teaching and teacher training, and since 1998 I have lived, taught and trained in eight countries on four continents. For many years I was head of a training centre here in the UK, primarily running courses leading to the University of Cambridge CELTA and DELTA teaching certificate and diploma. As well as holding these qualifications myself, I have a BA in Philosophy, an MA in Applied Linguistics and TESOL, and in recent years have also co-founded a small Education Technology company. In my teaching, I believe strongly in student-centred active learning, so if you are enrolled in one of my classes, you should expect to participate fully and make lots of contributions. Outside of work, I love getting out into nature, kayaking, culture and travel, food and trying to recreate all the new dishes I encounter along the way - with varying levels of success.
