Applying for Erasmus+ at Saarland University
If you are interested in coming to Saarland University as an Erasmus+ student, the first step is to get in touch with the Erasmus team at your home university. They will provide you with all the important information on planning your Erasmus+ stay. If your university doesn't have a cooperation agreement with Saarland University, please get in contact with Fabienne Adolphe at the Saarland University International Office. She can give you important information on the application process and will determine if it is possible to study here as a free mover.
It is possible to change the courses listed in your learning agreement during your time here. Students often realize a course isn't the right fit or are not able to register for certain courses. If you make changes to your learning agreement, you, the departmental Erasmus office at your home university and the LST Departmental Erasmus Office will need to sign the updated agreement before the end of your stay at Saarland University. Once you have completed all of your examinations and received grades, you will receive a transcript of records (ToR), which lists which courses you completed at Saarland University and what grades you were awarded. If you did not pass an examination, the course will probably not be recognized at your home university, but it will not have an effect on your eligibility for Erasmus+ funding. However, the transcript of records must show that you took and did not pass the examination. If you do not take an examination that was planned in your learning agreement, you will not be eligible for Erasmus+ funding.
For the classes you take in the Department of Language Science and Technology, your course instructors will report your grades directly to the LST Departmental Erasmus Office. In most cases, you will not receive a course certificate for these classes. For classes you take in other departments at Saarland University, please request a course certificate (Schein) and send it to us by email.
If you leave before receiving all your grades and course certificates, please let your course instructors know ahead of time and ask them to send the course certificates directly to us. We will then send the original course certificates to you along with your transcript of records. As soon as all your grades and course certificates are available and entered into your transcript of records, your transcript of records will be forwarded to the International Office to be signed. You will receive a copy of your transcript of records by email and the original will be sent to your home address. Due to differing grading deadlines, it can take a while before your transcript is ready. If you need to submit a document to your home university before your transcript is ready, please inform the LST Departmental Erasmus Office.
The coordinators at your university are familiar with German university schedules and will not expect you to submit your transcript before it is available. It is not possible to provide transcripts at the end of July, as the examination period is still in session and assessments have not yet been graded. It is not uncommon for it to take until September or October for transcripts to be released. If you need a document from Saarland University in order to re-enrol at your home university, please let us know.
Shortly before the beginning of every semester, the Department of Language Science and Technology holds an information event for Erasmus+ students studying in the department. We’ll walk you through what you need to know and help you navigate the Erasmus bureaucracy. You can also get more detailed answers to your questions. Don't miss out on this opportunity to talk to us in person!
The next event will be on Friday 27 March 2026 at 10 a.m. online. Students already known to us will be invited by e-mail and thus receive meeting information (link). Should you want to assist and not be invited, please send an e-mail to Andrea Wurm.
Here you can find the slides from the last information event.
